About North Bergen

The Township of North Bergen is located in the northern part of Hudson County, New Jersey. The town was founded in 1843. It is situated on the Hudson Palisades in areas that are as high as 240’ above sea level and in one of the hilliest municipalities in the U.S. North Bergen has diverse geological features. Partially situated on the Hudson River, the Hudson Palisades rise from the waterfront, while the northern part of the town sits atop the plateau. The cuesta, or slope, on its west side makes North Bergen the city with the second-most hills per square mile in the United States after San Francisco.

Louis XVI once had a garden here, and it is said that the country’s first Lombardy poplar trees were introduced into this garden by Andre Michaux, the king’s official botanist. At the eastern end of the township is North Hudson Park, a 167-acre county park. Part of it lies on the Palisades, offering views of the Hudson River and New York City, and a scenic path goes down steps to the river valley. West of the boulevard the land is more rolling, and the park contains a lake, with fishing, boating and skating.

Other facilities include a children’s playground, athletic fields, picnic areas, tennis courts, volleyball courts and bike and hiking trails. Echevarria developments in North Bergen offer the best of both worlds, a suburban setting and city convenience.

North Bergen is one of the most populated towns along the Gold Coast of North Jersey, one that’s always been highly valued for its proximity to New York City. You’ll find everything close by from transportation to nightlife to shopping to health care.
